The Wabash County YMCA has announced its plans for Summer Day Camp. The Camp, formerly known as Summer Fun Care, will be headquartered at the YMCA as before with a number of new camp features. It will be headed up as before by Marla McCracken, a YMCA Certified Child Care Director. It will be structured more as a day camp. The actual day camp will run from 8am to 4pm weekdays starting on Monday June 7th . The camp will close on Friday August 13th.

Some 20-25 Camp Counselors will lead the campers in a number of sports activities like bowling, swimming, fishing, softball, soccer and basketball. Other activities would include, WII Tournaments, DDR tournaments, the summer reading program and pottery to name just a few.

In cooperation with The Honeywell Center Outreach Program, the camp will also offer roller skating as well as movies at the Eagles Theater. The campers will also make use of the John Drook Skate Park as well as the Field of Dreams, utilizing that facility for nature walks and sports as well as other camp activities.

Campers will also make a few day trips as in the past to the Carnegie Library, the Wabash County Museum as well as the Wabash County 4H Fair to name a few. Campers will also be kept busy doing crafts & photography as well as several “surprise” activities that the YMCA has never had access to before. Campers will also participate in several service projects around the city during the camp. Projects may include a YMCA Car Wash, as well as helping to beautify the downtown area and participating in clean-up projects around the city.

Campers will be in different age groups and those include: Pre-Kindergarten (4 year olds), Kindergarten and 1st graders, Grades 2&3, Grades 4&5, and Grades 6-8. The Camp (8am to 4pm) will cost $85 per week, per child. There will be a $5 discount per child for same family siblings. Extended Care for those who need to take advantage of early arrival (6-8am) or late pick-up (4-6pm) will be $10 per week. These costs include privileges to the YMCA facility while attending Summer Day Camp during camp hours. Part-time children will be $20 per day for the Day Camp (8-4pm) and must attend at least 2 days per week.

There will be a $20 registration fee per family unit. Registration fee is waived for YMCA Members in good standing. For more information, please contact the Bill Barrows or Steffany Pegg at the YMCA. This will be a new and exciting way for your child to enjoy the summer months and learn about new projects and the value of involvement in our community.

We promise to have lots of fun with your child as we celebrate Summer Day Camp together!
